Keli cooks

OK even though it is almost 2013.. I am still new at this whole putting a picture on my blog thing... I will just blame it on the fact that my computer is so slow and outdated...that it makes learning anything on it very annying.. so anyway.. over the weekend, Corey age 11 and Ari age 8 and myself made this funfetti cakemix chex mix and I am going to tell you how and post a link so that you can see where I got the idea this stuff can be made so fast and is YUMMY
FUNFETTI CAKE MIX CHEX MIX

dump 5 cups of rice chex into a big bowl
melt some vanilla bark (which is all Harris Teeter in Ashburn had) in the microwave.. it melted just fine with no shortening.. I just followed the package directions it was that easy..
drizzle the bark over the cereal.. explain and then show what drizzle means if the kids do not understand that word...
gently mix with a large spoon.
dump 1 and a half cups of funfetti cake mix and a half cup of powdered sugar over the cereal and gently mix until all the cereal is covered with a large spoon..

there you go .. you are done!!!
this is so easy that when 13 year old Lena came home from a friends, 8 year old Ari was able to tell her how to do it and Lena made some for herself and her friends..

I got the idea off this blog.. http://www.sixsistersstuff.com/2012/02/chex-funfetti-cake-batter-buddies.html

Thanksgiving Craft 2012

I wanted to do some sort of  "thankful" craft this year with the big kids that I watch.. and I finally found one on Pinterest...it was a good idea..and I actually COULD have posted a picture here..but I am not going to because it was a bit of a FAIL... so ...
I bought some plates at the $ store and some markers that you write on plates with at Jo-Ann's and with Lena age 13 and Corey age 11 we wrote what we were thankful for in 2012...
Then we had to let them dry for a certain amount of time..which I did and then bake them in the oven for 20 minutes at 325.. which I did... and well..
.......then SOME of the letters came off...when I washed it in the dishwasher.. even though this these pens were $6 and said that was what you did to make them dishwasher safe..

I went through the whole process again.. and same results .. I am not going through the whole thing again..but it was a good idea right...

flashback Keli

This is a picture of me at my friend Carrie's wedding. That is her mom Lorraine, me then her big sister Colleen and her little sister Kim and her neices ( Colleen's daughters) Emillee and Taralee..

I have a lot of mixed emotions about this picture but I wanted to post it because when they came out of the Logan temple I said to Carrie " how did you know you wanted to marry your husband??" She said to me, " Keli, he is the nicest man I know" ....................I hope to one day be able to say that... let me be a little more detailed...
it would be nice to walk out of the TEMPLE as a MARRIED woman and say that..
............and I would not mind if it were the Logan temple either :)

field trip

Last weekend I went to Morven Park in Leesburg,VA It was the house of two very wealthy Virginian's  Westmoreland & Marguerite Davis. Westmoreland Davis was the Governor of VA from 1917-1922.
My friends Michelle, Monica and Vanessa along with Monica & Vanessa's children; Nathan, Alexis, Johnathan and Ezra met me at the outlet mall and we drove over to Morven Park.
As we drove up and saw this HUGE estate we were like WOW!!!!
Monica had accidentally told her kids we were going to Mt. Vernon.. I don't think they were let down this place was AMAZING..
... We walked in and it was SO OPULENT!!! there were HUGE tapestries on the walls and things from all sorts of continents from Buddha's to things from European Royalty. It was like a museum in there..
They also had no kids.. I wonder if the place would have looked that good IF they HAD had children..We had a great time touring the estate and seeing all the old fashioned stuff from the different era's that the Davis' lived there up to the 1940's.
here is the website if you want to check it out http://www.morvenpark.org/

after that we stopped by Mom's Apple Pie in Leesburg one of the yummiest places ever. IF YOU GO TO LEESBURG YOU HAVE TO GO TO THIS PLACE!!!  http://www.momsapplepieco.com/

We also went to Fireworks Pizza. The last time I went there it was great this time it was just OK so I am not going to put the link here.. but you can look it up if you want..

field trip

I have some very scandoulous news to report.. When I was in Adams-Morgan DC a couple of weeks ago with Michelle and Monica.. I went to a fortune teller for fun.. now don't go off telling me I am of the devil or whatever.. it was just well fun..
Her name was Mrs. Susan and it said FIVE DOLLARS.. we walked up a steep set of stairs and Mrs. Susan answered and I went in.. then her friend came in with a small dog and I don't know what her deal was but Mrs. Susan was like I need to give her a private reading so you need to go in another room.. like um yeah... I don't know you or your little dog so be gone..
the five dollars got me one question so.. I paid $20 to have my PALM READ!!!! and here is what Mrs. Susan said.
1. that I am going to live a LONG life.. that my family lives long lives and I am going to live a long life.. very, very very long life.. like at least until my mid-80s...I said I plan to live to at least 100..
2. That I am never going to have any major diseases or sicknesses..
the interesting thing about that is that once when I was on my mission an iridologist came and said that SAME thing to me that I would live a LONG life.. and that I would never have any major illness or sicknesses so well let's hope for the best.
3. She asked me if I had been married I said no.. she said that surprised her because well .. it looked like I was SUPPOSED to have been married.. she said there was a guy that really wanted to marry you and you were suppose to marry him.. do you know who that is..I said no I can't narrow that down because A LOT of guys have told me they have WANTED to marry me.. one guy even bought me a ring..but..I think that there are other guys I met that wanted to marry me MORE than that guy did so I don't really know..
4. That it is OK that I did not marry WHOEVER that guy was because " he was not right for me anyway"....
........that is good because I am not trying to date any of my old BF's... for real...esp. the married with kids ones.. hahahahah
5. that my love life has gone really really REALLY bad...
6. plenty of guys have liked me but the guys that I like don't like me back and the guys that like me.. I don't like them back
7. that I have no problem getting men.. that I seem to be able to attract and get men.. I just have a problem KEEPING men..
well.. duh..that the men I get leave me..
8. that it is not because of my looks or my personality because they were both fine.. that I have some sort of blockage that is making men leave me...
9.that there is a man right now in my present that likes me that " comes in and out of my life like a bouncy ball" ...............and he is NOT for me because he has a huge negative cloud hanging over him.. and well unless he wanted to clear up that negative cloud it would never work out...
10. that there is a guy from my past that is going to come back... um probably the same as the guy above..
11. that there is a guy that is going to come and I need to remove the blockage that is making guys go away..so that that guy could stay..
12. there is a guy in the present that I COULD be attracted to if I thought about it... wow
13. that I AM going to get married and have TWO kids.. and I have plenty of time. but not a TON and I need to remove that blockage so that I can move on...
14. that my friends Monica and Michelle are nice girls and they mean no harm to me..and they are my real friends and I am lucky to have them.. I agree...
15. that for just $90 she will do a love chart for me.. and she will find out which guy is causing me to have this blockage... omgosh I wish I had $90.. I want to blame some RANDOM GUY FROM MY PAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.... hahahahahahahahhaha and she would remove the blockage and she would give me some herbs and a love potion...
IDK about that because in books and movies love potions always go awry.. (see the Buffy episode where Xander tried that...)
so I am just going to have to pray to good... ask for the guidance of the Holy Ghost..and ask them to remove that blockage..because one thing is for sure.. I do have SOMETHING going on..!

field trip

a few weeks ago, I went out for the evening with my friends Michelle and Monica.
Our first stop was a place in DC called The Amsterdam Falalfel House.
I had read about it in a book I checked out from the library and thought I should try it. We parked in a parking garage and walked past several homeless/occupy DC people to get there. We went in and had no idea what to order we could get a 2 piece falafel served in a pita bread or a 3 piece .. I was really hungry so I said that I wanted the 3 piece the guy behind the counter said that I might want to rethink that because most ladies can not finish the 3 piece.. because once it gets in my stomach it expands and turns into something else...........
I got the 3 piece because I was really hungry.. so did Michelle.. so did Monica .. none of us could finish it..also we all got frys ... they gave us more frys  than Five Guys does...we should have got ONE fry and shared it!!! I gave all of our left-over food to the homeless/occupy DC guys..
We also got their virgin brownies that they make with virgin olive oil.. they were good..
I felt like this place really needed an instruction manual.. like we were supposed to smoosh our falalfel in the pita to make room for the toppings we did not know that until finally a nice staff person took pity on us..There were also a lot of toppings.. they needed a suggestion to what mixtures were good and what to put on there because I did not even know what some of the toppings WERE.. seriously!!
but all in all we had a good VERY filling experience there.. after that we walked around Adams-Morgan for a very entertaining night..that I will explore more in another post.

Super Saturday Oakton, VA 2012

Last weekend we had our annual Super Saturday. It was a great day here are some of the fun things that I did and the other ladies there did.

1. there was a bread making class. ...I had been at work late the night before and thought.. I can just sleep in and go late to this class.. It is probably just Sandy giving us tips on how to make bread.. eh.. I was so wrong..I should have got up.. the class started at 9.. I got to the church around 9:30 and went into the class around 9:40.. there were people sitting around 3 or 4 tables and they were split up into partners or small groups and rolling out their own cinnamon piece of bread and then putting butter on it and cinnamon and brown sugar.. and then they rolled it in a snake and then made it into a ring, Sandy showed them how to then cut it with some scissors and fold it down to make it look fancy.. it is called a cinnamon ring.. or a Christmas ring or something like that...YUM..wow...
there was also a LONG church table FULL of bread that Sandy had made for us to sample holiday bread from all sorts of European countries..and cinnamon rolls and orange rolls and she had these little red bags that she said that people could fill up with as much bread as they wanted and take home...
wow... Sandy is for real AMAZING...

Then I went to a gift-wrapping class... Sarah taught that.. she showed us how to wrap gifts with only three pieces of tape.. Then Gaye taught us how to make a Santa Head.. look on my FB I am still not sure if it is creepy or cute.. you wrap crepe paper around different small gifts and then just keep wrapping and then you make the last layer pink and then make a hat and a beard and put on eyes... hahahahahah then the person on Christmas morning opens it up.. and then just unwraps it to get out the presents.. I kinda want to make my brother Brad one... kinda..

Then I went to a class where we made felted pumpkins and felted soap.. I was not able to finish either of these YET.. but I got the gist of it.. so I can at home.. I really liked that craft..

there were also stations where people could make
hair bows
big letters with decoupaged pictures on them
towels with vintage Christmas pictures
bags with scripture stories.
salt scrubs
and
gift tags

the food that they served was done by Jenny in our ward and it was amazing.. she made
some sort of feta phyllo bread
lemon yogurt bread
she had tomato basil bread and sourdough bread sitting out with butter and cream cheese to go with it..
she also had pumpkin donut holes and zucchini bread and some other kinda of bread with cream cheese and butter..
she had two different flavors of water..
it was so good..
I don't even KNOW how much of that lemon yogurt bread I ate..

I wish that this was better edited and I wish that the technology that I have access to was up to speed with how I envisioned this post in my brain.. but it is what is..and this is all I have and I am grateful for that...!
