Keli Travels

Melinda and I went to Canyonlands National Park in June.

We stopped by Canyonlands, I was able to get a stamp for my national park book.. and we were able to take a some fun pictures.

NEWSFLASH!! if you go on a road trip with me.. I don't talk that much..and fall in and out of sleep..

That being said, we finally arrived at Canyonlands. I took a lot more pictures then what is above..BUT..it was SO SUNNY there that I did not realize that at first my camera was turned around and I was taking a lot of selfies.. and passing the camera to Melinda and she was taking selfies too..

also my phone erased all my pictures but the instagram ones..

Lucky for me some survived and you can see that Melinda and I went to Canyonlands and posed for pictures.

Keli Travels

After Melinda and I took pictures with "Big John" Utah tallest coal miner we decided to stop at the Utah Western Mining and Railroad Museum..
here we are outside. I am not sure how popular this place is because
1. we could not check in there, like no one ever had ever before..so Melinda tried to make it a destination.
2. we were there awhile and we were the ONLY ones there.
3. the staff was way excited that we were there.

We walked in and looked through the gift shop. THEY GAVE US FREE COAL!!!!??? I know you are jealous right?? FREE COAL.. if you go there you can get some too.
I also got Ralph a shirt DYED with coal.. which is kinda cool when you think about it.
and a local author was there volunteering and she had a display of her book that she had written an LDS romance set in the 1800s in that area. This doesn't really sound like a book I would read but I bought it becaue it is good karma to buy other local authors book.. because one day I will be selling my book and hoping that people buy it.

This museum is set in the sight of an old hotel so we had a lot of fun walking around and taking pictures with all the old stuff.. if anyone ever has anything that is old ever in this town I think that they donate it to the museum..

there were a lot of rooms with a lot of stuff in them including a jail in the basement.
Here we are in the basement jail.. and the picture of us outside and a picture of Melinda .. I am not sure what she is doing but I told her to pose like that.. It was some workshop type thing.
Here we are posing with in the "beauty parlor" section of the museum. Melinda is under a hair dryer and I am about to get a perm.
here we are in the office part of the museum doing what we do.

there were SO MANY other rooms and so much else to see that these are just a small portion of what was there.

When we left the guy that ran the museum came outside and pointed out one of the other famous features of this town they have their own Balance Rock...but seriously once you get to a certain area of Utah if your town doesn't have it's own Balanced Rock..well I don't even know what to say...
there is is Helper,Utah's balance rock.

This was all unplanned and random. But Melinda and I sure did have a fun time in Helper,Utah My only regret is because we spent so long there.. we later did not have time to visit the Four Corners..but when you read the above post does it look like I regreted it that much...nope :)

Keli Travels

When Melinda and I were on our road trip this summer. We saw this billboard, that said "Utah's tallest coal miner. I was barely awake in and out of conciousness but when I saw that sign I was awake then.. I mean a BILLBOARD announcing a roadside attraction. Now that is not something you see everyday.. I mean usually I am driving out in the middle of nowhere to find these things..but this one had a billboard..
I was like UTAH'S TALLEST COAL MINER!!!!!!
Melinda was like "do you want to stop?"
DO I WANT TO STOP??????????????

yes!!!!!!!! it is Utah's tallest coal miner OF COURSE I want to STOP!!!! so we got off the road and had took pictures.

So if you are ever headed down Rt 6 in Utah and have the opportunity to stop in Helper,Utah

OF COURSE GET OFF THE ROAD!!!!!!... YOU NEED YOUR PICTURE WITH THIS...

also in case you did not realize this .. it IS a "Midas Man.. which one of the coveted Roadside Attractions of the USA.

Keli Travels

I was able to see my good friend Kate while I was in Utah. This made me so happy. Carla, Jorge and Taylor dropped me off at her house and we took the Trax over to City Creek Center http://www.shopcitycreekcenter.com . We ate dinner at Kneaders then went and sat on these couches  outside by a fireplace ..it was June and the weather was perfect ..but imagine if it had been a little bit colder and the fireplace was on. So cool. After we chatted she gave me a ride over to Melinda's.. I am so grateful for people that took the time and wanted to see me.

Keli travels

In June, after we got Chinese food we headed over to Temple Square with no definite idea of what we were going to do.. we parked and the first thing we came to was the conference center so we toured it.. Even though all of us except Taylor had toured the conference center before. Taylor loved all the escalators that they had there and I asked if I could vacuum like that one lady talked about at conference.. I mean it just sounds SO FUN! ...but they said "they did not know where the vacuum was"..oh well it was still a great tour and I am glad that we did it..
